Use DLP Pico products to design smaller mobile projection and display applications

Consumers now expect brighter and larger displays for mobile, portable, and household products. But high brightness and high resolution usually mean more power consumption and more bulky products.

Consumers now expect brighter and larger displays for mobile, portable, and household products. But high brightness and high resolution usually mean more power consumption and more bulky products.

The new TI DLP®Pico™ 0.23-inch chipset can realize smaller, lower power consumption portable Display products with high definition (HD) and full high definition (FHD) resolutions. The DLP Pico 0.23-inch chipset can support a variety of next-generation ultra-portable display products, such as smart home displays, mobile phone accessories Pico projectors, smart speakers with displays, augmented reality and virtual reality wearable devices, and mobile smart TVs.

The smallest chipset to achieve highlight

When designing a small product, you don’t want the display resolution or brightness to be affected. Higher brightness helps achieve clearer high-definition images, larger projection displays, and better visibility under various lighting conditions (including bright ambient light). Since the DLP Pico 0.23-inch series includes our smallest full HD display chipset to date, you can create ultra-low power mobile pico projectors that can fit in a shirt pocket. The brightness efficiency can support up to 200 lumens of brightness to achieve a display from 20 inches to 40 inches, and its overall dimensions are only 78mm x 78mm x 15mm (100 lumens). Figure 1 shows an example of a projection display in a portable smart speaker.

Low-power components extend battery life

Have you ever experienced a situation where the projector shuts down while watching a movie? DLP TRP5.4μm reflection technology enables high-efficiency projection applications and extends the battery life of mobile projectors. DLP products do not require polarization, so you can focus all the light source energy to achieve a brighter display. TRP technology includes DLP IntelliBright™ image processing algorithm suite, which allows you to reduce the power consumption of the device by 50% or increase the brightness by 50%. The power consumption of the display driver and digital micromirror chip (DMD) is less than 240 milliwatts.

Realize HD and qHD display

DLP230NP is the smallest chipset on the market that can achieve full HD display. DLP230GP allows you to design a chipset with the same size as HD products at a lower price, but with qHD (960X540) resolution.

The following table summarizes the products of the .23-inch chipset:

These chipsets are paired with power management chips (PMICs) to simplify and integrate all power management required for DMD, display drivers, and LEDs. Three PMICs provide various LED maximum current drive performance: DLPA2000 (0.75A), DLPA2005, (2.4A) and DLPA3000 (6A)

You only need one that supports up to 24-bit RGB parallel video interface and I2C processor to drive and control the DLP Pico display. Both display drivers have image optimization advantages, such as 1-D keystone correction, active power management processing and color coordinate adjustment, which can simplify your display design work.
