Smart Speaker Shipments by Strategy Analytics

Amazon was the world’s largest smart speaker supplier in the fourth quarter of 2019, with 15.8 million shipments and a 28.3% market share; Google’s 13.9 million shipments accounted for 24.9% of the market, ranking second; Chinese brands Baidu, Alibaba and Xiaomi followed.

Apple’s HomePod smart speaker shipped an estimated 2.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2019, ranking sixth with a 4.7% share of the smart speaker market.

In fact, Apple’s HomePod shipments in the fourth quarter of 2019 have significantly increased by 1 million units compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, a year-on-year increase of 65%. This didn’t help its market share much.

The overall smart speaker market grew by 44.7%, with total shipments of 55.7 million units, up from 38.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2018. Strategy Analytics said 2020 is expected to be a record year for smart speaker sales and shipments despite the temporary supply chain shutdown caused by the coronavirus.

In this list, the leading factors of Amazon and Google have a first-mover advantage, both of which launched their own smart speaker products earlier; in addition, there is a price advantage, their smart speakers have extended into multiple categories, covering larger price range. The same is true for the three Chinese manufacturers on the list.

Strategy Analytics said that consumers are attracted by low prices, and Apple’s HomePod is priced at $299 in the United States, and there are not many countries where it is available.

Apple was previously rumored to be working on a lower-cost HomePod that could be released sometime in 2020, possibly to boost sales. But in @Applehui’s Weibo, the feedback from most netizens is not the high price, but the single purpose of HomePod. The sound quality of this product is very good, but except for Apple Music and AirPlay playback, it seems that there are not many usage scenarios. .
